I decided to set up my own bookkeeping business after years as an office manager. As an office manager I had always been very involved in the financial side of the companies I worked for, therefore when a leaflet dropped through the door to study bookkeeping at home I jumped at the chance to change my career.
So I set up as a bookkeeper in 2005, gaining my qualification with the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers. I managed to get my first clients through friends and a job advert in the local press. Then by word of mouth my business grew and grew and I have had some fantastic opportunities to work for a wide range of companies and with many different people.
That is the aspect of the work that I love, that personal touch when meeting business owners, understanding their financial requirements and taking an interest in their individual business and using my skills to make the bookkeeping side of their business provide the answers and information they need to run their business efficiently.
At the end of 2013 my business had grown so much that I decided to take on someone to help me on the advice of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers and so I did and it has made the work even more fun to share it with like-minded people. I consider myself and those working with me to be zany and fun, but always highly professional.
